Let's Go Birding! 04/27/2027 06:00 am 194 Days

New River Birding & Nature Festival is a fundraising event. All proceeds from the Festival and our other events go to the registered 501C3 local nonprofit Fayette County Education Fund, Inc (FCEF). Festival participants and friends have helped support Education Fund programs since the first Festival in 2002. It is the mission of the FCEF to secure the future of Fayette County, WV by providing relevant leadership training and environmental education to young people in the community. The mission is carried out through the leadership training program, Leadership Fayette County, and a variety of environmentally focused programs delivered in our outdoor wetlands and woodlands classroom at the New River Birding & Nature Center located in Wolf Creek Park.

Far More than a Recreational Outing

What we share here makes an impact at home and a ripple effect. We enjoy adventure and discovery in beautiful places, while eating good food, sleeping comfortably, and spending time with wonderful people. Then, everyone takes their experiences home to their backyards and communities.

Experience: Direct instruction from top naturalists and ornithologists improves field identification skills by sight and ear across diverse habitats.
Interconnectedness: Field trips expose us to a variety of ecosystems, showcasing how elevation, forest structure, plant communities, and hydrology directly impact bird populations and biodiversity.
Science: Engaging in structured bird surveys, data collection, or research initiatives is experience that may lead to, or improve, contributions to community science initiatives in all of our regions.
Community: Connecting with speakers, researchers, experienced guides, and fellow nature enthusiasts opens doors for long-term friendships and collaborations to take insights and conservation perspectives home, to local networks and inspire generations of outdoor stewards.
