Daniel is a bird biologist for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service where he works with private landowners to manage habitat for at-risk bird species such as the Cerulean Warbler. As part of his work, Daniel performs various surveys throughout WV to monitor bird population trends, including Breeding Bird Surveys, Christmas Bird Counts, nightjar surveys, secretive marshbird surveys, and American Goshawk surveys.
Daniel's passion for bird conservation started at West Virginia University where he graduated with a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources in 2022. Daniel first started working with birds as a bird banding assistant at the WVU's Core Arboretum. Since then Daniel has worked as a nature instructor for the WV Botanic Garden, a seabird research assistant for the National Audubon Society's Seabird Institute, and a volunteer for the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia.
Daniel and his wife, Megan, live in the small town of Summersville, WV (just 20 miles north of the New River Gorge Bridge) where they spend most of their time outdoors. Outside the realm of birds, Daniel enjoys hiking, backpacking, fishing, photography, and sharing the natural beauty of WV with friends and family.
