Dear Friends,

We’re deeply grieved by the tragic loss of loved ones caused by COVID-19; the havoc of its continued spread and the prolonged anxiety and isolation in its wake. For the safety of all our Festival participants and all of our communities, the ‘21 Festival cannot be held. Understandably, the WV Governors’ Office maintains a prohibition on fairs, festivals, carnivals, and similar events, and the CDC warns against large group gatherings. We continue to take their recommendations seriously and want us all to stay safe and keep one another safe.

We do see relief on the horizon in the forms of vaccines and various immunity over the coming months. We optimistically anticipate resuming the Festival in 2022, albeit with new health safety standards in place. Your companionship and laughter are greatly missed and we’re saddened to have to wait to meet new friends. Please, join us in hope for 2022.

We will present a Virtual ‘21 NRBNF. While it cannot be the same as spending time with you in the field, we hope to share some joy and laughs. It's FREE and everyone is welcome to join us on Facebook starting Sunday evening, April 25, through Saturday, May 1 during our regular Festival week for daily bird watching, photo and video highlights, stories, raffles, discussions, and t’shirt sales. “Favorite” our Facebook page so you don’t miss any details or action!

For those of you who would like to consider traveling to the area and birding on your own, keep an eye out our upcoming page, Birding on Your Own in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, to be linked here when it's live.

As always, please reach out to us with questions, concerns, comments, and conversation. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you all in 2022, May 2 - 7, if not sooner.

Be well. Stay well. Keep one another well.

Rachel, Geoff, Keith, Paul

The Festival is a non-profit fundraising event for LFC above and beyond Festival attendance and hope you will consider continuing those incredible contributions. Information can be found on our website: Who We Support.

May 2 - 7, 2022

Since 2002, the annual New River Birding & Nature Festival takes place in and around the New River Gorge National River in the heart of the upland, hardwood forests that Cornell Lab of Ornithology identified as a crucial stopover habitat for the continued survival of species such as Golden-winged, Blue-winged, and Swainson's Warbler, as well as the Scarlet Tanager. Our bird and nature watching festival highlights more than 100 bird species on a variety of daily birding tours.

It's our favorite week of the year and we like to think of it as a five-star nature vacation where you nurture your mind and body by connecting with nature in the fresh spring air of the Appalachian Mountains.

You won't find rows of vendor tables with cool stuff from interesting places around the world here. You will find dinner tables with all kinds of folks from all sorts of places who enjoy exploring the phenomena of the physical world. A friendly bird and nature watching vacation for everyone, we offer a variety of daily guided birding and nature excursions, world-class speakers, the finest collection of guides, tasty food, and a back-porch atmosphere unmatched by any other birding festival. Signature guided bird watching experiences include opportunities to visit a wide range of habitats, world class instruction for those wanting to enhance their skills, and the best guide-to-guest ratio on the festival circuit. All skill levels are welcome.

With options to suit many budgets, packages range from to a single day field trip and programming to a week-long with deluxe cabin accommodations package. Each day offers a great field trip of your choice, three tasty meals, two knowledge and fun packed presentations, world-class professionals you will call friends, and good times.

As a non-profit fundraising event, the Festival is the major funding source for the local 501C3 Fayette County Education Fund, Inc. Since the Festival's inception, participation supports the Fund's student environmental and leadership training programs. Learn more: Who We Support
