New River Hummingbird Festival
August 23-25, 2013 Hawks Nest State Park
For a weekend of great birding and gardening fun with hummingbirds, native plants, butterflies, birds of the Gorge, bird banding, presentations and demonstrations, join master bander and hummingbird expert Bill Hilton Jr., local gardening specialist Terri Johnson, and New River Birding & Nature Center staff as we discover the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds feeding, nesting, migration, and behavior, and how to design a hummingbird habitat in your backyard, schoolyard or nature center.
August 23, 6 p.m. - dinner and presentation in Hawks Nest Restaurant: Ruby-throated Hummingbirds: “From Your Yard to Costa Rica… and Back!” August 24, 8 - 4 p.m. - Hummingbird Banding and Native Plants (Midland Trail Pavilion) August 24, 6 p.m. - dinner and presentation in Hawks Nest Restaurant: Birds of the New River Gorge: from residents to migrants, birding by ear, and habitat. August 25, 8 - 12 p.m. - Songbird Banding and Native Plants (Midland Trail Pavilion)
Weekend Package includes: two dinners, presentations, and two days of programming. Lodging and Aerial Tramway and Jetboat rides are available at additional costs.

Programming provided by the 501-C3 Fayette County Education Fund - to secure the future of Fayette County by providing relevant Leadership and Environmental Training to the community, with an emphasis on youth education, and New River Birding & Nature Center - Sharing the secrets of science and nature in the New River watershed with West Virginians and their friends.
