Lucky Dozen Trip Description
New River Birding & Nature Center’s exclusive Fall Birding Weekend is limited to 12 guests. This up-close hands-on weekend offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Bill Thompson, III and the New River Birding & Nature Center staff to enhance your birding skills and cultivate new friendships.

Saturday morning rendezvous bright and early at 6 a.m. at the Pollard's
residence in Oak Hill for breakfast, and we'll be on our way to the
Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory (we provide field trip transportation).
Lunch can be bought at a unique local market to be had in the field later,
then we're off to a 20 to 30 minute hike (eight-tenths of a mile, rated
moderate difficulty) up the mountain to the Hanging Rock Tower. The
day will be spent with former Hawk Mountain staff member Bill Hilton Jr.,
enhancing your skills in raptor identification with breathtaking raptor views
Saturday evening we will relax with dinner and a warbler presentation with
one of the world's foremost birding experts and personalities
Bill Thompson, III, at the Pollard's residence.
Meet Sunday at 6 a.m. at Wolf Creek Park. Fall warblers are the main
feature of this field trip with Bill Thompson, III and Bill Hilton Jr. to the New River Birding & Nature Center Wetlands Boardwalk and Nature Trails (this is an easy walk on mostly level ground). Brunch at The Vandalian is provided.
